Calvert County Detention Facility

Description

A request has been submitted to renovate the existing Calvert County Detention Facility. A new 350 bed facility along with support and program spaces will be constructed after funding is secured. The decision to build a new facility in lieu of renovating the existing is based on estimated costs to renovate of approximately $56 million, whereas a new facility is estimated at approximately $40 million. The current site will be used for the construction of the new facility thereby avoiding land acquisition costs. In conjunction the lower level of the current Work Release Facility will be renovated to accommodate additional office/inmate spaces.
